Lotus Notes R5 and CITRIX
CITRIX Server
Lotus notes installed on N:\ as a shared installation in path apps\lotus\notes. Shortcut published on server (shows up on all desktops). Template resides on this server.
Home Directory Server
Server contains users home directories H:\
This is where the notes.ini, data directory, names.nsf, desktop5.dsk, cashe.dsk, and bookmarks.nsf
The shortcut on the citrix server points to the home directory and that users template (H:\ladair\louts\notes)
CITRIX Client
User logs in and is connected to their home directory
To logon to Lotus notes the client clicks on the published shortcut and the shortcut points them to their own home directory where Lotus notes opens with their own notes.ini file in a personalized client (they have their own calender, bookmarks and addressbook)
How to install Lotus Notes on CITRIX:
Before you begin make sure that administrator has access to all of the drives on the server.
Current or new home directories will be needed for Lotus Notes and Citrix to work.
Make sure each user has proper access to their home directories.
Installing R5
1. Logon to the CITRIX server as administrator (there should be no clients accessing the server)
2. Load Lotus Notes R5 CD and click exit.
3. In Control Panel, double-click Add/Remove Programs icon.
4. Click Add New Programs and click CD or Floppy.
5. Click next.
6. Run the Lotus Notes R5 install program setup.exe from the CD ROM. (You have to get there by clicking Clients, w32intell, setup.exe)
7. Click next to continue on the first notes install screen, click yes to accept licensing agreement.
8. Enter the company name in the appropriate fields. Do not enter a user’s name in either field, as data entered here will be seen by all users.
9. Click on the Shared Installation box.
10. Enter the destination folder as D:\apps\lotus\notes. (The drive letter is not important as long as the file structure is \apps\lotus\notes.)
11. Click YES to create the new folders. Continue the Notes installation until complete.
12. Create a folder on the Citrix server called r5clienttemplate. (not in the apps folder)
Share this folder using the same name for the share and set permissions to give read access to all domain users.
13. Open a command prompt and connect the standard user’s home letter to this share.
Enter the following command: Net use H: \\server name\r5clienttemplate, the "server name" is the name of the Citrix server
14. Install the Notes program again.
In add/remove programs, (Add programs - CD\Floppy - Open - Next)
run the N:\apps\lotus\notes\setup.exe.
15. Click next to continue on the first notes install screen. Click yes to accept licensing of Notes.
16. Click next to accept the existing company name field.
17. Change the destination folder to H:\lotus\notes\data and click next.
Click Yes to create the folders
18. Click finish when completed. Do not launch Lotus notes now.
19. After the program has been installed, click finish on the add/remove programs window.
20. Using Windows Explorer cut and paste the notes.ini file from C:\WINNT to the directory H:\lotus\notes.
There are 2 more steps that need to be completed before Lotus Notes is available to Citrix users.
1. The application must be published by the Citrix Administrators (for more info: )
Create a common desktop icon for all users to run notes:
a) From the Windows Explorer menu; select file>new>shortcut
b) Enter D:\apps\lotus\notes\notes.exe in the location field and click next
c) Enter Lotus Notes in the name field and click Finish
Still in Windows Explorer, right click on the newly created Lotus notes shortcut. Select properties and then select the shortcut tab.
Set the start in: field to H:\lotus\notes
Command Line: D:\apps\Lotus\Notes\notes.exe
Working Directory: H:\Lotus\Notes
2. Copy the contents on the r5clienttemplate directory (including the Notes folder within that folder) to each user’s home directory (H: drive).
